LEARNING TO DRIVE
Legally you must be 17 to learn to drive, however, you can apply for your Provisional Licence at 16. The DVLA application form can be found at the Post Office or on line at www.direct.gov.uk
As a beginner your first driving lesson will be on the controls of the car, experiencing the `biting point' and some moving off and stopping. In the 2nd lesson you will learn how to change gears and control the car on the move. Each driving lesson is taken at your own pace and will be adapted to suit your needs.
THEORY AND PRACTICAL TESTS
The Theory Test consists of 50 multiple choice theory questions. The Hazard Perception section of the test involves 14 clips of road situations that increase your anticipation skills.
When your instructor feels you are ready you will apply for your Practical Test which lasts 40-45 minutes and assesses whether you have the skills to drive independently on the road.
For further driving information about the driving tests or DSA regulations go to the Driving Standards Agency www.dsa.gov.uk
